In my eyes, she was the oak tree, her love ran deep
In my heart, he was the twister, fearsome and mean
Shattered glass, broken children, he took no blame
She grew numb on the inside, I felt the same
Flashing lights, a badge at the door
She’d send them all away, and hide their secret war

CHORUS
Fragile like a bird caught in her cage
The door was open but she wouldn’t fly away
The sky was calling, I wanted her to be free
How could she have the strength to stay
But not enough to leave..not enough to leave

So I became the silent daughter, never speaking of the past
To me she walked on water but she was sinking fast
A room without a door, a gate without a key
A knight without a sword, she still protected me

CHORUS
Fragile like a bird caught in her cage
The door was open but she wouldn’t fly away
The sky was calling, I wanted her to be free
How could she have the strength to stay
But not enough to leave..not enough to leave

Leave behind those prison walls
Of endless nights down darkened halls
Or open up her wings and try
To show me what it means to fly

CHORUS

The sky was calling, I wanted her to be free..
