On a late flight home to Charleston I closed my eyes and tried to sleep
Then I looked up I saw my first love getting in the aisle seat
We laughed and said it was a small world, she showed me pictures of her kids
and when I mentioned I just got engaged, she said I guess we both found our way
and I said thanks to you I did. And then I said,

CHORUS:
I don’t ever take her for granted
Cause I know that’s why you left
I never told you, how much I loved you
so I tell her every chance I get
A simple twist of fate
A lesson learned too late
can be a blessing and a curse ’cause you might have been my last
if you hadn’t been my first

We danced around the way it ended we laughed about how it began
and it felt warm and so familiar, I almost didn’t want to land
but then I saw the lights of Charleston as the plane broke through the clouds
And I wanted to be home again cause the love that might have never been
Was waiting for me on the ground

CHORUS:
I don’t ever take her for granted
Cause I know that’s why you left
I never told you, how much I loved you
so I tell her every chance I get
A simple twist of fate
A lesson learned too late
can be a blessing and a curse
’cause you might have been my last
if you hadn’t been my first
